Gerard Hunwick
Gerard has a deep commitment to internationalism and a desire to enable others to enjoy and learn from interaction with other cultures.
His background is in journalism and he has worked in the UK and in New Zealand. He was previously Newcastle Bureau Chief for the international learning-through-journalism programme (Children’s Express) and for a variety of community-based journalism projects across a range of media. He worked for three years as a presenter on Spice FM radio, which connects with those from a Bangladeshi, Indian and Pakistani heritage. He has also been involved in community development in the city (Greening Wingrove CIC and Elswick Community Pool and Leisure Centre).
Previously, he has been involved in British Council youth missions to Lithuania, Romania and Jordan and has contributed to Commonwealth Heads Of Government events in previous roles as co-ordinator of Newcastle youth organisations and welcomed others to the city and the region as part of international exchange programmes.
He currently works in an international customer communications role for a large employer in the city.
