Brexit Support Week 16-20 November


The North East Chamber of Commerce is running free practical webinars all week to guide and inform business and trading preparations for the end of UK-EU Transition on 1st January 2021. They will feature Q&A sections to help get the most relevant answer for your business.

Teaming up with member experts, the programme covers a range of issues from customs to data, migration to currency risk, as well as sharing of toolkits and materials, all geared to support your business through Brexit.

Monday- 16th November

State of Play

The opening session for the Chamber’s Brexit week. This elite panel will provide an update on what we know about Brexit, where we are heading and what are the gaps in the current process.

Customs Readiness

This practical workshop will provide business with knowledge of customs and terms, how Brexit will impact them, and what to have ready by January 1st, 2021. This workshop will be led by expert trainer Holly Tonge, with a decade’s experience in the customs and logistics sector, as well as delivering the Chamber’s Global Training, she will lead members through this interactive customs webinar.

Tuesday- 17th November

Making a success of the new global environment

The View from Europe

Brussels is the heart of the EU, and with a special working group examining the UK-EU future relationship, the British Chamber of EU & Belgium are in a great position to share there on the ground insight, and what next for UK outside of the EU. EU & Belgian Chamber CEO, Dan Dalton, & Senior Lecturer of Economics at Teesside University, Dr. He Zhang, will share their insight to UK from Europe.

Wednesday- 18th November

Building and maintaining relations with European partners

Brexit will fundamentally change how we work with our customers, suppliers and partners in Europe. Communication and understanding will be crucial in ensuring a smooth transition from now into the new. This session will look at how to maintain and build relationships with those in our supply chains and overseas, calling upon the implications for getting it wrong and how to avoid complications down the line.

Future of UK standards & regulations

Leaving the UK will not only change how we move goods post-Brexit, but how we monitor and regulate those goods. There has been much interest in the future of the UK’s membership of chemical regulatory authority REACH, but also the future of CE Marking for UK goods. This session will inform businesses of how to prepare and protect products through Brexit.

Thursday-19th November

How to manage data and implications of Brexit

This workshop will focus on the handling & management of data, as well as the implications for getting it wrong. In 2018, the UK introduced the EU GDPR rules, regulating and protecting data, the UK aims to replicate this with UKDP, but there will be added challenges to housing and moving data overseas in 2021. This webinar will assist domestic and global businesses that handle and are involved in data.

Protecting intellectual property overseas

Intellectual Property (IP) is crucial when trading overseas as it fosters innovation, protects your product and helps access new markets and consumers, such as Copyright, Trademarks and Patents. Brexit will impact the protection and regulation for your business, as the UK is set to leave certain European conventions on IP protection, but there are steps business can take to be better prepare for 1st January 2021. Join Rebecca Grant, IP Specialist at HGF, for this workshop on the importance of protecting your businesses Intellectual Property overseas, some best practice, and the implications of Brexit on intellectual property.

Future of migration and business travel

Leaving the EU’s “Single Market” will mean leaving the Free Movement of People to and from Europe. The UK has already announced a plan to introduce a “point-based” migration system, and business travel may require visas in 2021. This panel session will look at what the new system will look like for business looking to travel or attract skills abroad, and steps they can take now to be prepared when the new changes take effect in 2021.

Impact of Brexit on VAT & Tax handling

This webinar will focus on tax changes, and how business can prepare. Value Added Tax (VAT) is a tax levied at each level of production, but as the UK will leave the “EU VAT Area”, the UK could gain more flexibility on the structure of VAT after Brexit. Join Andrew Needham, VAT Partner at Haines Watts, as he discusses the implications of Brexit VAT and how business can prepare for Change.

A new beginning with the Euro Chambers
