French is the most widely taught language in Newcastle schools. There are lots of opportunities for teachers of French to access training and resources to support their work in schools. Find out what’s on offer.

June webinars on TV5Monde resources

If you are a teacher of French and are looking for new exciting resources for the end of the school year, why not give TV5Monde a try. Join our partners from the Institut français for a 1-hour webinar to discover the famous francophone TV channel teaching and learning platform:

French summer courses and bursaries

Francophonia is making a generous offer to a limited number of Association of Language Learning (ALL) members in 2022 for a one or two week course in Nice in August for teachers of French.

This may be of interest to teachers in all sectors, those who wish to make contacts, improve their French alongside the development of methodology and may interest trainees or Early Career Teachers as well as established teachers. Click here to find out about the course and how to apply.

Primary French Project and teacher training

Newcastle Primary teachers of French are attending a free Primary French training day on 9th June with Catherine Cheater, supported by International Newcastle, Institut français, Newcastle City Council (School Effectiveness) and St Cuthbert’s High School.

The Primary French Project is a free programme for schools and this training is being delivered as part of our support for language teachers in the city, as well as supporting a pilot project on transition of language learning and teaching from primary to secondary school. These materials with assessments and cultural guidance can be freely accessed and downloaded from Culturethèque.

We work closely with the Institut français to share resources, opportunities and arrange training for teachers of French and those interested in France and French language and culture.

Modern Foreign Language Networks for language teachers in Newcastle

There are now two Newcastle MFL Subject Networks for language teachers in Newcastle schools, bringing people together, sharing good practice and introducing expert speakers and new resources. The Primary MFL Network is led by Alex Reid Milligan (Throckley) and the Secondary MFL Network by Mark Wilkinson (St Cuthbert’s). To sign up contact sarah.edgar@newcastle.gov.uk

Support for international links and activities

We also support international links and have special partnership arrangements with Nancy, our twin city in France, as well as providing support for international visits and links to enhancement opportunities for schools. Click here to find out more and all the contact details.
