Primary French training for Newcastle teachers on 9th June

Newcastle Primary teachers of French are invited to attend a free Primary French training day, 9.30am-3.30pm on 9th June, with lead project consultant Catherine Cheater.

Teachers will learn about the free, open-access programme and how to use the pedagogical resources and assessments provided by the Institut français: levels bleu, blanc, rouge and tricolore for Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 respectively.

By using the materials to teach children, the teacher’s subject knowledge will be developed in terms of vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, as well as cultural knowledge. The transition phase known as niveau multicolore is designed to help secondary teachers to understand the primary experience and to build upon it in Key Stage 3.

These materials with assessments and cultural guidance can be freely accessed and downloaded from Culturethèque

Primary French transition pilot

The Primary French training is being supported by the Institut français, which has developed this free programme with teaching resources and assessments for primary schools. It has been organised by International Newcastle, Newcastle City Council (School Effectiveness) and St Cuthbert’s Catholic High School as part of the development of a French transition pilot project.

By working more closely with the Secondary school and accessing additional training and resources, the pilot seeks to enhance the teaching and learning of French in Primary schools, support transition of learners to Secondary school and the transition of teaching from primary to secondary. Learning will be shared through the Primary and Secondary Modern Foreign Language Networks for Schools. The Primary French training on 9 June has been opened up to any Newcastle Primary School to attend.
