International Newcastle and Newcastle City Council (School Effectiveness) are proud to share our new brochure about how we work with schools, colleges and wider partners to empower the City’s young people to become confident, global citizens.
We have produced this brochure to:
- share our approach to supporting internationalism – international links and connections, languages and intercultural awareness
- explain the benefits of internationalism for children and young people and their future in a global society
- outline our goals and progress around languages, intercultural awareness and international links
- share a series of case studies from five Newcastle primary schools, who are benefitting from embedding internationalism across their curriculum and taking children on international visits
- provide links to further support and information for Newcastle schools

Our impact and reach
We have made significant progress in supporting international school visits, virtual partnerships, language teaching and learning for schools and pupils in Newcastle, as well as bringing benefits to the wider region through the annual festival we host and coordinate, Express Yourself: North East Festival of Languages. We are grateful to all the schools who engage and all the partners who work with us to widen opportunities for children and young people in Newcastle and the North East.

Benefits of internationalism
We support Newcastle schools with international connections, intercultural awareness and language skills, because these are essential for children and young people to thrive in a globally connected world. Their engagement supports personal development, builds skills and broadens and future education and career opportunities. It opens doors to a wide range of experiences and positions children and young people to be active, informed, and effective contributors to a more interconnected and harmonious world.

Acknowledgements
We are grateful to all our partners supporting the international ambitions of schools and colleges in Newcastle and to all educators providing opportunities for the city’s children and young people.
