International Newcastle is delighted to be appearing at Newcastle Start Up Week Online. The week-long programme is a great opportunity for enterprising people with ideas, starting up in business, or those ready to grow, scale or pivot to come together and be inspired in a week of talks, presentations and panel discussions, filled with advice, support and food for thought.

Founder & Event Producer, Newcastle Startup Week
From the beginning, I wanted our annual Newcastle Startup Week festival to be of national and international significance – helping to shine a light on some of the world-class businesses, organisations and individuals we have in the North East of England.
I also wanted to use it to help attract and retain talent and inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs (both young and old).
I’m pleased to say that since 2017 we’ve managed to attract delegates from across the UK plus France, Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, Romania, Azerbaijan, China, India, Pakistan, USA, Canada and Australia because we offer something they can’t find in their local area.
We also like to use our events to educate local homegrown talent about the opportunities to learn from & collaborate with people in other countries and so for this reason, I’m delighted to have Declan Baharini (Director, International Newcastle) speaking for us on Day 4 (‘Growing & Scaling’) about the current work and future opportunities to raise Newcastle’s profile & standing as a truly international city!”
Locally conceived with global reach
Usually a series of physical events across Tyneside, this year the Newcastle Start Up Week has gone virtual, reaching a local, regional, national and international audience.
Following the successful online event in May, which engaged over 300 people, this second online week of events is an opportunity for anyone to get involved, wherever you live.
What can you expect?
Newcastle Startup Week ONLINE events follow the same five themes as the physical ones:
- Monday = INSPIRATION
- Tuesday = GETTING STARTED
- Wednesday = FUNDING & FINANCE
- Thursday = GROWING & SCALING
- Friday = KEEP GOING OR PIVOT?
There will be a series of talks, presentations and panel discussions every day on these themes, which will be uploaded to a private Facebook Group each day and interactive comments and responses throughout the week.
Some of the confirmed speakers and talks for 21-25 September include:
- Sam Conniff & Alex Barker on ‘How To Be More Pirate’

Director, International Newcastle
I was delighted to be asked to talk about International Newcastle, our ambitions and activities at Newcastle Start Up Week.
With our partners we are keen to promote internationalism in all its forms, including developing links and partnerships, supporting enterprise and skills and promoting the city as a great place to do business.
We hope to see lots of enterprising people at the event and hopefully inspire Newcastle businesses to get involved with our Internationalism Alliance.
