The UK has rejoined the Erasmus+ programme – which is great news for Newcastle and the UK, as it opens new opportunities for children and young people and adults to gain knowledge and experience by studying or training abroad. Funding will be available for international placements and partnerships for organisations working in education, training, youth and sport. The programme will open for applications in November, with a deadline of February or March 2027 and funding outcomes in June-August 2027.
There is a lot of activity underway to promote the opportunities nationally, led by the EU in partnership with the UK Government and British Council, who will be the national lead for Erasmus+. There is a series of online information sessions in June and lots of information online about the programme – find out more below. International Newcastle and Newcastle City Council (School Effectiveness) are involved in national groups to prepare for our schools’ engagement in Erasmus+ and will be providing support to schools, in particular.
Supporting Newcastle schools’ involvement in Erasmus+
International Newcastle and Newcastle City Council (School Effectiveness) have a strong track record in supporting schools to develop international partnerships and access Turing Scheme funding for international visits. We want to ensure that we can help schools get ready for Erasmus+ and the many wider opportunities available through this programme. We will be hosting our first information session at 4pm-5.30pm on 11th June at Newcastle Civic Centre to introduce the programme to Head Teachers and Teachers, along with a chance to meet our French strategic education partners from Nancy. We also recommend schools sign up for the online information sessions in June to get an understanding of the opportunities available (see links in ‘Schools’ section below).

Although the funding call opens in November 2026, there are a few things you can to do to get ready for your Erasmus+ journey:
- Sign up to the Erasmus+ UK newsletter to keep up to date with news and opportunities
- Follow Erasmus+ UK on social media: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and X
- Attend webinars for your sector to learn more about the opportunities available and how to apply for funding
- Familiarise yourself with the Erasmus+ programme and decide on the type of project you would like to deliver – a mobility project or a partnership project. You can browse previous projects for inspiration on the Erasmus+ website Think about how your idea supports the Erasmus+ priorities
- Identify potential partners from outside the UK that you’d like to work with
National online information sessions for getting involved in Erasmus+
The British Council is the EU Commission’s National Agency for Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps decentralised actions in the UK, working together with the UK’s Department for Education. They will manage Erasmus+ programmes in international exchange and cooperation in formal and non-formal education on behalf of the European Commission and following guidelines set by them. They are running a number of webinars in June for schools, vocational and education and training and adult education. Click on the registration links below for sessions you are interested in.
