Festival of Languages 2022 launches with The Big 3 – creative projects for schools and groups

It’s brilliant to be annnoucing the launch of our Big 3 creative projects for schools and groups, giving children and young people across the region the opportunity to have fun expressing themselves in song and music, writing and drawing and celebrating our diverse cultures and languages

The Big 3 creative projects open now
Express Yourself: North East Festival of Languages 2022 will be running for the whole of March to celebrate the diverse languages and cultures in the region and our connections to the world.
These three major projects are live now and we encourage schools and groups to get involved and be part of the region-wide celebration of creativity, languages and cultures.
I am a small part of the world: Join our Festival song
1st Feb – 15th March 2022

Schools and groups are invited to sing, sign, play, perform and film their contributions of our Festival song, culminating in a compilation video – a centrepiece of the Festival.
Mother Tongue Other Tongue: poetry project
31st Jan – 25th March 2022

For children & young people aged 7-18 in North East schools and community schools. Writing and sharing poetry in their first/home languages or a language they are learning. Certificates for all.
Languages open doors: poster competition
31st Jan – 31st March 2022

For pupils aged 7-18. Create a compelling poster, which explains to other learners why it is important to learn another language. Certificates for all and printed versions of prize winning entries.
What’s On in March
There will be lots more opportunities for schools and communities to get involved in the festival as well as these Big 3 creative projects. Some live events and pre-recorded activities running in March are already taking bookings, we will be adding more in the coming weeks and even more will be open in March.

National competitions open now
There are also three national competitions running in February too
- Express Yourself celebration of speaking (1-28 Feb)
- World Children’s Haiku competition (ends 28 Feb)
- French Pop Video Competition (open until 15 April)
