The Festival so far
Thousands of children and young people have already taken part in activities for the Express Yourself: North East Festival of Languages (1-31 March 2022). From singing and recording the Festival Song and writing poems in their home languages and languages they are learning, to taster sessions on European and world language and cultures and a webinar on careers, they are benefitting from the many free live events and activities on offer, as well as a wealth of other resources.
There is so much more that schools and communities can get involved in this month and lots of free activities, resources and events available.

- Learn Chinese through culture with the ENACT app 10am-12pm, 16th March 2022 (all ages) online workshop with a craft activity
- English Unlocked online taster session 4-4.30pm, 16th March 2022 (ages 14+) Communicate better with people who don’t speak English as a first language
- Languages, cultures and cuisines workshop 9am-12pm 18th March 2022 with Linguacuisine in person
- Quiz – Vive la francophonie 2022 20-25th March 2022 (register by 18 March)

- GemArts world languages and culture interactive workshops (Bolivian dance, Dhol drumming and Bharatanatyam dance)
- Puppet shows – have fun learning French! (3 shows for young learners of different ages)
- Ancient Stories in Stone: Videos and resources on Latin tales and Roman lives in the North East
- Lingotot: 5 language sessions (3-11yrs) interactive workshops in French, Italian, German, Spanish and Mandarin
- Fun with Japanese interactive videos for children aged 5-11yrs

International Newcastle co-ordinates the Festival on behalf of a wide range of partners across the city, region and UK as part of our own ambition to celebrate, promote and support language learning and teaching in Newcastle (Newcastle City of Languages), to promote international connections for children and young people, as well as intercultural awareness and tolerance. We believe that this will bring life-changing opportunities for young people and help improve their future options, choices and careers.
