International Newcastle is hosting and co-ordinating the Express Yourself: North East Festival of Languages for the fourth year running – and we are delighted with the response from schools and groups across the region. Thousands of children and young people have been signed up to participate in different activities so far. Everything offered during the Festival, which is running now until the end of March, is absolutely FREE.

- Register/get involved in three free creative projects celebrating languages through song, writing and art – (unlimited participation for schools and groups, but note registration deadlines in February and submission dates from 6th to 22nd March)
- Register for free, fun pre-recorded language learning activities which schools and communities can access now or 1-31st March (unlimited participation)
- Access free activities and resources available anytime without registration, choose from a selection for primaries (unlimited participation)
- National language competitions/celebrations open to primary schools now (unlimited participation)

Activities for adults
Free Italian language taster for adults with La Dolce Lingua in Newcastle 3pm Mondays, 1pm Thursdays throughout March (Register) Sign up to attend one free 45-minute taster session in Italian for beginner or intermediate. You will be taught by a native speaker who is a qualified tutor teaching Italian to adult learners.
Heritage storytelling – our shared roots: Community event 4.00-5.30pm on 20th March, Kittiwake Trust Multilingual Library, Gateshead Families and members of the region’s diverse communities are invited to share their heritage stories and memories of their country of origin and its culture in this community event at the Multilingual Library.
Multilingual Library primary school tours, games and stories and Breaking Bread (adults) 2-4pm on 21st March Members of the region’s diverse communities are invited to exchange stories and songs about – and tasting – breads in many languages and creating an artwork
