GIMAGINE – new support for teaching and learning German in UK state-funded schools

GIMAGINE promotes and supports the learning of German as a foreign language. A consortium of national partners is providing resources and materials to teaching professionals in state-funded schools in England. Let’s get started with German in Primary Schools!

As part of the GIMAGINE initiative, non-specialist primary teachers in England are invited to a combined language and pedagogical training course in Berlin (22.10- 28.10. 2023). The course will be offered at A1/A2 level and will provide an introduction to modern methods and teaching materials for teaching German in primary school with a focus on interactive and communication-oriented methods.

Is your German Department facing a short-term recruitment issue? Do you have classes who are having to be taught by non-specialist German teachers?

The Goethe-Institut can support you or individual students until the department has got back on its feet again. 

Free online upskilling course: Teaching German to children with Felix and Franzi

Get to know the materials “Deutsch mit Felix und Franzi”, which were developed to make learning German fun for elementary school pupils. At the same time, you will expand your linguistic and methodological-didactic knowledge and develop ideas for your lessons in exchange with other participants. Registrations by: 10.09.2023.

Conversation class for German teachers

Would you like to practice speaking and keep up to date with current topics in the German-speaking world?  Then this short online conversation course (7 sessions on ZOOM) is made for you! In addition to language training, it also offers the opportunity to exchange ideas with other colleagues. Registrations by 12.09.23

DLL Deutsch Lehren Lernen

Would you like to develop or refresh your professional skills by trying out new things and reflecting on your own teaching? There will be another round of DLL (Deutsch Lehren Lernen) courses starting at the end August. The courses combine 4 online live session and self-study. Courses include: Teaching Skills and Planning Lessons, How to Learn German as a Foreign Language?, German as a Foreign Language for Children,  German as a Foreign Language for Young People. Registrations by 23.08.2023.

Career Roadshows

Career Roadshows offer pupils and students an excellent environment to learn more about career opportunities with German. They offer a combination of workshops, presentations, taster sessions and information stalls. Please register on our website if you would like to attend with your school class – places are limited!

German A Level Days – Climate Neutral Town

Teamwork, discussing, making decisions, negotiating and dealing with conflicts – Students learn all about these things and improve their communication skills in this exciting game suitable for pupils from 14 years of age. Registrations are now open for September, October and November.
