Free Haiku workshop and world children’s Haiku competition

The Japan Society is hosting a free online workshop for teachers and community/youth workers with internationally acclaimed haiku poet Paul Conneally. Haiku are short form, three line poems, which foster creativity and get children excited about poetry. Join the workshop for ideas, advice and practical guidance on teaching haiku. 4-5pm, Tuesday 7th December. Click here to book a place.

Children under 15 are invited to enter the 17th JAL World Children’s haiku Contest on the theme of ‘Towns’. The competition is open until 28 February 2022 to children from the UK to send in original haiku and artwork. Click here for more information and how to enter.

We will also feature Haiku written by children in Newcastle in our Express Yourself North East Festival of Languages and cultures in 2022.

The Japan Society is the leading independent body in the United Kingdom dedicated to the enhancement of the British-Japanese relationship.
