Our partners at the Institut français are promoting a range of French language activities, resources and training opportunities for teachers of French in 2024. They are also offering French-German days in London for teachers and pupils and the chance for schools to host a French Language Assistant (applications open 29 Feb, close 30 April for 2024-25). In summer 2024, Paris will be the host city of the Olympic Games for the third time. There are a range of free resources available to discover, teach and learn French language through sport. These include: Olymp’kit resources, teaching materials and games for the classroom; Athleticus video series with sport vocabulary; RFI radio listening and grammar; TV5Monde videos and teaching materials; educational papers relating to Olympic Games and values taught through different subjects (ages 3-15). French Summer School for primary teachers
Primary School Teachers teaching French are invited to apply for this summer school, taking place Sunday 28 July 2024 to Sunday 4 August 2024 at Alliance Française de Normandie, Rouen, France. General French language group courses will be offered (20h) as well as 2 workshops focused on French phonics. This summer school is intended to help teachers upskill their proficiency in the language in order to feel more confident in the classroom.
Training fees, breakfast, dinner and accommodation in a French host-family are covered by the Institut français du Royaume-Uni. Travel expenses will be incurred by the participant. School activities in school and in London
As part of its mission to promote French culture and language in the UK, the Institut français reaches out to young learners by offering a wide range of educational activities in its premises, or at schools.
Teachers can access virtual escape games and a French box of resources for their school. Schools who can travel to IFRU in London can take part in: Set French Days and French Days à la carte, a full day of immersion in the French culture with a language or cultural activity in the morning and a school screening in the afternoon for your pupils. There are also school screenings of a film of your choice on demand and special school screenings as well as new releases every Friday morning you can attend with your class. Host a French Language Assistant
The Franco-British Foreign Language Assistant programme is a unique opportunity for schools and students to share and learn about the UK and France. The Foreign Language Assistant’s role is to help the pupils improve their oral skills, to boost their confidence in the foreign language and to increase their cultural awareness by the creation of extra-curricular activities on contemporary culture. French Pop Video Competition
The French Pop Video Competition is open to students aged 7-18 (KS1-5) in schools in the UK to write original songs, sing (or rap!) them and shoot a video. Students can practice French in a very different and fun way, improve their writing skills, enrich their vocabulary by creating their own lyrics, as well as practicing their speaking skills while shooting the video and creating lifelong memories with their French class.
UK schools should register by 10th March 2024, create your song and submit by 1st May. Grand national winners have been announced on 21 June (World Music Day) during an official ceremony followed by a pop concert at the Institut français du Royaume-Uni in London.
