A live performance in German by the band Munich Supercrew at Great Park School, Newcastle will mark the first in-person event of Express Yourself: North East Festival of Languages, the UK’s largest celebration of languages for schools.
Taking place during German Week, the event launches the Festival’s in person live programme and brings together music and language learning in a high-energy concert for secondary school pupils.
There are still some places left for this exciting event and schools from the North East and Tees Valley can book places for students aged 11-18, by emailing info@expressyourselfne.com with their school name and address, contact teacher and the number and age of pupils they would like to attend. Munich Supercrew is one of the most innovative music and education projects in German as a foreign language, combining pop, hip-hop, beats, and interactive performance. Their live shows engage students from the first moment, teaching vocabulary and pronunciation in a playful, memorable way.
The musicians Michie, Kurt, Sebastian, Amadeus, and Stevie have performed internationally since 2012, inspiring learners across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. At their performance at Great Park Academy the band will deliver an interactive language workshop and a live concert in German to pupils from and schools across the North East.
The Munich Supercrew concert and tour has been organised by the Goethe-Institut UK. The concert takes place during German Week, Monday 19-Saturday 24 January 2026, an initiative by the German Embassy in London, organised together with the Goethe-Institut UK and the DAAD.
German Week shines a spotlight on German language and culture across schools, universities, and the wider public, and gained participation from over 10,000 students across the UK in its inaugural year in 2025.
German Week is all about opening doors – to language, culture, and future opportunities. After reaching over 10,000 students last year, we’re excited to build on that success with an even more dynamic programme in 2026. From interactive classroom activities to live music events with the Munich Supercrew, our aim is to show how German connects people and creates pathways for learning and careers. Together with our partners and schools across the UK, we want to make German Week a celebration that inspires and empowers young learners.
Andrea Pfeil, Head of Language Department, Goethe-Institut UK
The Munich Supercrew workshop and concert in German offers a lively and innovative way for young people to immerse themselves in language learning through a truly engaging and fun experience. The concert perfectly reflects what we aim to achieve with the North East Festival of Languages. There is still time for schools across the North East and the UK to get involved with this and other Festival events and activities running until 31st March 2026.
