Education partnerships with Nancy, France

We support Newcastle schools and colleges to develop partnerships with their counterparts in Nancy, France. Newcastle and Nancy have been twin cities since 1954.
We work closely with the city of Nancy and region of Nancy-Metz to promote new partnerships. These links are supported by International Newcastle, Newcastle City Council (School Effectiveness) and DAREIC Nancy-Metz, their international relations department.
Supporting education links with Nancy
Since 2020, we have supported over 25 new education partnerships, as well as helping schools with ideas and activities for their partnerships. We have also helped Newcastle schools to access Turing international visit funding and helped them prepare their trips to their partner schools in France. We have also hosted staff from DAREIC in Newcastle, who have visited our schools to talk about developing their partnerships. Schools linked with Nancy share information and learning about their partnerships and we also have civic, business and cultural links with Nancy that enhance the relationships.
This is a great opportunity to develop international links, support language learning, intercultural awareness and relationships, as well as develop joint projects and exchanges and a wide range of curriculum and extra curricula activities.

Newcastle’s deepening ties with Nancy
Newcastle and Nancy have been twin cities since 1954. Relationships developed over time and in 2014 the two cities agreed to a closer union through a range of activities from culture to digital development and exchanges between citizens and universities. During a visit to Newcastle in April 2018, the cities signed a revised twinning agreement where they made commitments to promote civic engagement to collaborate on emerging challenges and to promote shared values of peace, friendship and equality.
