This is one of a series of virtual youth consultation workshops being hosted by the Internationalism team at the British Council in July and August, in partnership with UK Youth and My Life My Say.
How will it work?
My Life My Say will be facilitating the conversations using their Democracy Café format, which is a reinvigoration of the 17th-century coffee house tradition where members of society would gather and discuss local issues.
During the workshops, participants will be able to share their perspectives about internationalism in its various forms.
What will you talk about and why?
The British Council’s Internationalism ambition centres around the belief that all children and young people need diverse connections and skills, both within their communities and internationally, to build a better future for themselves and for the UK.
The Internationalism team are supporting an alliance of partners who champion international experience for all children and young people in the UK.
The aim of the youth consultation workshops is to understand young people’s views of international opportunities, and if/how they think it contributes to their lives.
The consultations will also be important to get a clearer understanding of whether or not young people have previously had international experiences, and what the barriers have been to accessing them so far.
How will it connect to work in Newcastle?
International Newcastle and our partners are working closely with British Council as part of a national Internationalism Alliance, as well as on our own Newcastle Internationalism Alliance.
The outcomes from the Newcastle/North East session will feed into our planning for how we move ahead in Newcastle.
