We are excited to announce the relaunch of the Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) Network, designed specifically for secondary school teachers! In partnership with the Association for Language Learning (ALL), Newcastle City Council and International Newcastle, this network will be led by Newcastle MFL teacher Veronica Gonzalez Otero (Jesmond Park Academy).

Our first session will feature Helen Myers from the Association of Language Learning (ALL), who will explore the new GCSE curriculum and look at the A level curriculum. We will also discuss other important developments from ALL and the upcoming Express Yourself: Festival of Languages 2025. This is a great opportunity to connect with fellow secondary languages teachers and gain insights into the latest updates.
Who should join the Network meeting
- It is intended for colleagues in Secondary Schools to share practice, learn about policy and developments in languages education and opportunities for CPD and enrichment activities.
- Events will usually be held online once a term and are open to interested language teachers in Newcastle and around the NE region.
About Newcastle languages teachers’ networks and Newcastle City of Languages
The Newcastle Network (Secondary) is part of our work on Newcastle City of Languages. There is also a Primary MFL Network. The primary sessions take place online termly.
Newcastle City of Languages is a partnership approach engaging local, regional and national partners to benefit language teaching and learning in the city. It shares opportunities, provides enrichment activities, brokers connections for schools and support around languages and careers.

International Newcastle also works with Newcastle City of Languages and wider partners to deliver annual Express Yourself: North East Festival of Languages, which runs annually from January to March and offers free activities around languages, cultures and careers to children and young people in schools and community schools in the North East. The programme is being developed for the 2025 Festival now, with advance information by November and activities and events open for booking from 8th January.
