British Council is inviting young people aged 15-18 in UK secondary schools/colleges to take part in an international school partnerships competition. These supported international education partnerships are focussed on social action. Institutions can register interest by completing a short online form by 15th June (click here to complete the form).
We encourage schools and colleges in Newcastle to apply, because this is a great opportunity for young people to have meaningful international experiences. This programme offers the chance for young people to become active, global citizens, one of Our Newcastle Our World priorities. This facilitated and supported programme of activity will also help schools build their international dimension and widen opportunities.
EU UK Youth Stronger Together – Connecting Schools
This international partnerships programme supports connections between EU and UK schools and young people and real world social action. It will support young people aged 15–18 to become changemakers, active global citizens and leaders at local, national and European level.
There will be virtual thematic events on topics of common interest, generated by young people themselves. British Council will support international partnerships between schools in the EU and the UK working together on social action campaign projects. Winners of the school partnership competition will take part in an international face-to-face workshop on digital campaigning for social purpose.
This is a great way for schools to be involved, because they will be guided through their joint work in groups of five (two UK and three EU schools). Facilitated online meetings, classroom resources/activity plans, as well as support to develop a common social action project between October 2023-January 2024 are planned. A social action competition in February 2024 will result in winners taking part in an international workshop on digital campaigning in April 2024.
Three Stronger Together online events in the autumn term 2023 will involve experts exploring the themes the partnership groups choose. Pupils will interact with the experts around their theme and ask questions. Events may include themes such as climate, sustainable development, integration of refugees in Europe, fake news and disinformation. All events will be held in English.
