Translation competition and resources for schools

Anthea Bell Prize

Our partners at Queens College Oxford Translation Exchange are running the Anthea Bell Prize for Young Translators 2022-23 and we are encouraging schools in the city to get involved.

The competition is inspired by the life and work of the great translator Anthea Bell. It aims to promote language learning across the UK and to inspire creativity in the classroom. By providing teachers with the tools they need to bring translation to life, it hopes to motivate more pupils to study modern foreign languages throughout their time at school and beyond.

The prize is free to enter and open to all schools across the UK. Complete this online form to register your interest in the prize in 2022-23.

Teachers will receive creative translation resources for five languages (French, German, Italian, Mandarin, Spanish) and competition tasks. The resources will be made available in Autumn 2022, January 2023, February 2023 and the competition window will be open from mid-February until the end of March 2023.

Other language and cultural resources available

Teachers can also receive information about the International Book Club for SchoolsRe-viewing the World, and Creative Translation Workshops run in schools by undergraduate ambassadors.

Please note that the workshops will run in schools in summer term 2023. In-person workshops will be available to schools in certain areas of the UK, and the organisers hope to offer virtual workshops to schools in other areas. Follow the links above to find out more information.
