Newcastle City Council is asking the people who live, work and visit the city to get involved and share their views, thoughts and ambitions for Newcastle to shape the future priorities of the city in one of the largest consultations in years. This is about how the city grows and evolves and an opportunity for everyone to have their say through online surveys, community discussions and focus groups up to 20th March.
Five big questions
The Big Conversation and asks people five big questions about what matters to them:
- There are many things that people take pride in about their city, like the people, your neighbourhood, local shops and businesses, fun places, or what the city is famous for. What makes you proud of Newcastle?
- What should Newcastle do more of to be known around the world? Think big – maybe more big sports or music events, more international visitors, growing our businesses and trade, or something else?
- If you could change one thing to make Newcastle better, what would it be?
- What could you do more of to improve your local neighbourhood? This could mean buying local, building connections with neighbours, getting more involved in local events, or advocating for the things you care about.
- Newcastle City Council provides hundreds of services every day for residents, businesses and visitors – respondents are asked to rank a list of services from 1-5 based on how important these are to them

- The survey is run by Newcastle City Council and responses survey are anonymous and answers will be kept confidential.
- You will have the opportunity to say whether you would like to take part in online or in-person focus groups when you complete the survey.
- It takes 5-10 minutes to complete and you don’t have to answer all the questions if you don’t want to.

Survey for Children and Young people
- If you are under 18 please use this Newcastle’s Big Conversation Survey Questions – Fill in form to share your views.
- Each school and youth group that gets 20 individual responses from their young people by Friday 20 March will be entered into a prize draw and could receive a £50 voucher to spend on resources. Please email voice@newcastle.gov.uk when your school or youth project has submitted 20 responses.
Take part in Focus Groups in March
- There is an opportunity for those passionate about our city to take part in a focus group in mid-March and the feedback from these groups will be a valuable contribution to a final report on its findings.
