The British Deaf Association (BDA) is working with Signature to support the launch of a GCSE qualification in British Sign Language (BSL). Signature’s hard work to date has led to confirmation that the Department for Education will begin the exploratory process of developing subject content to see if a GCSE qualification is possible.
The BDA, along with Signature, NDCS (National Deaf Children’s Society), and the British Association of Teachers of Deaf Children and Young People, are looking to understand how much interest there is in a BSL GCSE. They are also keen to know how many students would like to study it, and how many are interested in teaching it.
