Government announcement on Covid-19 changes

UPDATED 24 February 2022: This week in the House of the Commons, the Prime Minister outlined the content of the Government’s publication ‘Living with COVID’. ​​​The key messages include:

  • Ending legal requirements for twice a week testing in schools from 21 February.  
  • Ending of legal requirement to self isolate following a positive test result from 24 February. 
  • Ending of legal requirement to test for 7 days after coming into contact with someone who has tested positive from 24 February. 
  • End of routine contact tracing on 24 February.
  • Ending of free testing for the general public from 1 April.
  • Ending of guidance for voluntary COVID-status certification for certain venues from 1 April.

  • Guidance on the changes starting today, 24th February
  • Recommended behaviours to reduce risk of catching the viris, including links to assets in community languages
  • Anticiral study and the Panoramic trial to learn more about antiviral treatments
  • International travel changes to requirements
  • Booster jans promotion, especially for the over 75s, residents of care homes and those who are 12+ and immunosuppressed
  • Vaccines in pregnancy advice and recommendation, including in community languages: Chinese, Farsi, Guajarati, Hindi, Punjabi (Indian and Pakistani), Polish, Romanian, Slovak, Somali, Urdu
  • Vaccine myths and reality check
  • Working safely guidance and recommendations on ventilation

COMMUNICATION TOOLKITS AND ASSETS IN COMMUNITY LANGUAGES FOR SHARING

International Newcastle supports the national and local effort to share up to date Covid-19 information and guidance, including national toolkits and communications assets, which can be shared with different language and cultural communities (including British Sign Language), through networks and intermediaries, on social media and within community settings.
