Holi is a Hindu festival that celebrates spring, love, and new life. GemArts organised this special Holi Festival of Colours in Gateshead in partnership with BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Arts on Saturday 19th March. It was a riotous celebration of colour and the Holi tradition through artist workshops, Henna stations, dance, music and food.
If you missed the celebrations, you can enjoy some participatory workshops with GemArts as part of the Express Yourself: North East Festival of Languages. Click here to register for pre-recorded workshops with participatory activities that can be accessed until 31st March., including Bharatanatyam Dance and Dhol drumming workshops.
This one-day event, part of GemArts core South Asian celebration programme, connects with BALTIC’s Neighbourly programme (which seeks to support people with refugee and asylum-seeking experience) and the Sutapa Biswas’ exhibition Lumen, open in the Level 3 BxNU gallery.
GemArts is a dynamic arts development organisation profiling and programming new and exciting culturally diverse arts, as well as running a range of projects for schools and community groups.
