Schools are increasingly interested in developing international links and international approaches for the benefit of their pupils, teachers and the whole school community.
Vicky Gough (British Council, Schools) hosted an information session on 13th March for schools in the North East with expert speakers Brian Stobie (Durham County Council’s International Team) and Veena Soni (EAL and Diversity Solutions and a Board member of International Newcastle). Summary of the session
Vicky stressed the importance of giving students the opportunity to have exchanges and international experiences to enhance their learning and development.
Brian shared key points about preparing for international visits and all the elements schools should consider as they embark on developing and international approach and international links and visits for their school. The preparation and planning in advance is an essential part of a successful partnership and visit abroad.
Veena shared her extensive experience of developing school partnerships with India, highlighting a recent visit as an example of both the preparation needed and the benefits for pupils, staff and the schools from taking part.

Turing Scheme
Newcastle City Council (Schools Effectiveness) and International Newcastle are providing support to any Newcastle schools interested in applying to the Turing Scheme for international visits and developing partnerships with schools in other countries. The deadline for applications is 4pm on 6th April. Newcastle schools should contact : sarah.edgar@newcastle.gov.uk
