We are delighted to promote this free online workshop (2-5pm 26th November) to primary schools in Newcastle and the North East, as part of our Newcastle City of Languages initiative.
Postponed due to the lockdown in March, this session is now being offered online and can be accessed by even more schools in the city and beyond.
We are also offering partnership links for Newcastle schools with our twin town in France, Nancy and access to lots of other support from our languages partners and access to online languages resources, which may help in the language learning classroom.
Primary French in Newcastle and NE: Free Online Workshop
2-5pm, 26th November 2020
About the Primary French Project
The Primary French Project provides free teaching materials that aim to train all who teach French in Key Stage 2.
Suitable for all practitioners, including those who have no prior knowledge of the language, and also specialist linguists who are new to teaching children in Key Stage 2, the materials aim to train the teacher by providing the subject knowledge that is needed in order to meet the requirements of the Programme of Study for Languages in Key Stage 2, as well as age-appropriate language-teaching methodology.
This session will focus on materials dedicated to teaching French at primary level, including lesson plans and interactive PowerPoint Presentations for the smart-board, as well as images and voice recordings necessary to model language and grammatical concepts to children. The Primary French Project materials can be freely downloaded from www.institut-francais.org.uk/primaryfrench

Offer to Newcastle schools to partner with schools in Nancy
International Newcastle is working closely with DAREIC, the international education office in Nancy, which supports partnerships between schools.
We are encouraging any schools with an interest in linking to a French school to apply for a partner, through a very simple process. All the details are on our website here.
Partnerships can be very fulfilling for the school, teachers and of course, pupils. They can be to help with languages or enrich any other curriculum area and can also get support part of the International Schools Award, which we are also supporting, with help from the British Council and their regional Schools Ambassadors.
Other languages and international resources and support available for schools
As part of Newcastle City of Languages, we have also been gathering and promoting links to partner organisations that can support language learning, teaching and promotion.
We have a number of webpages with links to different partners offering support for schools, as well as a growing range of online resources available for schools, wider language learning and English as an Additional Language. The resources pages are updated regularly.
We provide links to information through the Newcastle City Council Services to Schools webpages for Modern Foreign Languages/International.
You can also follow us on twitter to find out all the latest opportunities linked to languages and internationalism resources for schools. New opportunities come up all the time and this is the best way to find out about them.
