French, German or Spanish Teacher Training Scholarships
175 Teacher Training Scholarships are available. To be eligible to apply you must have a 2:1, or predicted 2:1 or a relevant PhD or Master’s degree, or recognised equivalent in French, German or Spanish. You may also be considered if you have a degree in another subject, or a 2.2 (or predicted 2.2) if you are able to demonstrate significant knowledge in the target language. You must also have secured a place on an eligible non-salaried languages teacher training scheme in England for the 2023 – 2024 academic year by September 2023.

You can apply for the scholarship before or after you have secured your teacher training place. Please note that the British Council is not an ITT provider and receiving the British Council scholarship does not secure you a place with a teacher training provider. It is your responsibility to secure a training place on an eligible course. You can search all available courses in England using the teacher training database, but note that only non-salaried courses leading to QTS are compatible with the British Council scholarship.
The number of training places available each year is limited, and available places are expected to fill up well in advance of courses starting for the academic year 2023/24.
Arabic Language Teacher Training scholarships programme
The Qatar Foundation International (QFI) and the British Council are pleased to announce that from 23/24 there will be an Arabic Language Teacher Training scholarships programme that will offer scholarships of £2,000 (this is in addition to the bursary offered to all those training to teach languages), plus a programme of scholarship activities (CPD, events and memberships). In order to be eligible for this, trainees need to have received a 2.1 in their degree or have considerable professional experience, have an offer of a place to train to teach Modern Foreign languages at a provider in England who can offer a placement that includes Arabic, have excellent spoken and written Arabic (MSA). Please note that this is not a DFE scholarship and the payments will be made by the QFI/British Council.
