Funding and support for schools and youth partnerships with Germany

Our partners at UK German Connection have announced the re-launch of funding for UK-German partnership activities for schools and youth groups. This is a great opportunity for young people to build relationships and meet young people from Germany, raise aspirations and build their skills, confidence and intercultural awareness.

Funding and support available

UK German Connection exists to help build relationships and support activity between the UK and Germany. They have just launched new grants for UK-German partnership activities.

The refreshed funding offer is similar to the grants offered before, but has been adapted to recent external developments and the changing landscape of international activity.

Schools and youth groups with a partner in Germany can now apply for the following grants:

  • Partnership Visit Fundstaff planning visits. Visit your partners to kick-start your link and plan future activities. Deadline: rolling.
  • Instant Impact first-time taster trips for young people. Give your pupils / young people the chance to meet their peers in Germany and gain an insight into the life and culture of your partner school or group. Deadline: rolling.
  • Flexible Funding Scheme joint thematic projects and activities, including virtual partnership activities and/or reciprocal visits. Work together on thematic activities and engage in intercultural dialogue. Deadlines: 16 July, 1 October 2021

Support for Newcastle schools and youth groups

International Newcastle and Newcastle City Council are working together to support opportunities for young people to have interational and intercultural experiences, build connections and relationships.

  • We have already provided support for Newcastle schools to access the new Turing Scheme for international visits
  • We have established links and arrangements with our twin towns of Nancy (France) and Gelsenkirchen (Germany) to be able to help facilitate and grow partnerships between schools and youth organisations, as well as wider partnerships
  • We have a strong relationship with the education and culture department of the German Embassy, UK German Connection (supporting links and partnerships) and the Goethe Institut (supporting language learning) and stand ready to help any schools or youth groups who are interested in partnering with Germany
  • We have partners across the public, private and voluntary sector who have links with Germany, which could enhance partnership activity
  • We held a secondary schools webinar in January about Newcastle and North East connections with Germany, including our partnership links with Gelsenkirchen. Click here to see the webinar and download the resources pack, which includes information on the range of organisations that can provide support to partnerships.

If you are school, youth or community group or support young people and are interested in establishing or deepening links with Germany, do get in touch and find out how we can help.
