The Angry Olympics with the Angry Family

This is a series of animated Powerpoint presentations with spoken Spanish and text (with English translation) following the adventures of the Angry Family at the Olympics.

These resources were produced as part of the Linguacast project at Newcastle University’s Language Resource Centre. They are being provided free of charge for use in Spanish teaching and learning (also available in French and German).

How to use the resources

The story is presented in different parts, each in an animated Powerpoint presentation and each exploring different parts of speech and vocabulary.

Angry Olympics Part 1 (Can Can)

The Angry Family buy tickets and travel to the Beijing Olympics – and lots of examples of the verb ‘can’/’to be able to’.

The Angry family debate different things, what they should and shouldn’t do and making decisions.

Angry Olympics Part 3 (Use of ‘going to’)

The Angry Family go to the Opening Ceremony of the Olympics and we find out all the things that are ‘going to’ happen.

Angry Olympics Part 4 (Target Language Practice)

Whilst practicing Archery, we learn about and practice words for different directions.

Angry Olympics Part 5 (The might-y potato)

All the action is in the Olympic Pool with lots of swimming vocabulary and the use of ‘might’.

Angry Olympics Part 6 (Comparatives and superlatives)

Still in the pool we find out how to use comparatives and superlatives with lots of vocabulary examples.

Angry Olympics Part 7 (Emotions and feelings)

The commentator explores the range of emotions and feelings of winner Mrs Angry Carrot. Adjectives, phrases, vocabulary and grammar.

Angry Olympics Part 8 (Time trials)

The Angry Family discuss what is happening when – past, present and future vocabulary around time and dates.

Angry Olympics Part 9 (Sports facilities and activities)

In a dream, Mr Angry Potato dreams of visiting all the different sports, recreation and facilities on offer across the Olympic Park.

Angry Olympics Part 10 (Tense moments)

A disputed race and lots of tension. This episode explores the different kinds of past tense and when they are used.

Angry Olympics Part 11 (Ordinal numbers)

The winners of the race are announced and we learn about ordinal numbers, e.g. first, second, third.

Angry Olympics Part 12 (Weighty Matters)

As the Olympics draws to a close the story’s participants discuss what they ‘would like to do’, ‘would like to be’ and ‘would like to have’.

Angry Olympics Part 13 (Bouts of Shouting)

During a boxing match, we find out lots of expressions and sports phrases, as well as weights and descriptions.
